For the uninitiated, amplah (aka ambra) is similar to sour plum, so the drink is sour yet sweet (not like the pork). I’ve been trying amplah juice all over Penang and this is the best one yet, a MUST-TRY DRINK when you’re in Penang.

Dropped by at Hon Kei Food Corner for porridge after the heritage walk. Taste wise good, more ingredients compared to the porridge I had earlier this week at Perak Lane. Waited 5 mins for the food to arrive, (versus 35 mins) and price is 2.

This is a place I'll definitely visit again if I ever go to Penang again. The food is truly comfort food. The broth is truly extraordinary. It's not overdone, but it's truly delicious. This is truly extraordinary.

Update 14.4.2026 : We order. Minced meat noodle RM 14.70., Minced meat + meat ball Vermicelli RM19.70. What stand out is they provide lot of minced meat and the soup so fragrance.

A memorable dish since childhood once operated by two Hainanese brothers in white Pagoda T-shirts with each bowl cooked over the charcoal stove at a time. Patience was demanded in the good old days.

Starting with noodles containing only meatballs on the first day in Penang, I spent three days of my 3-night, 4-day trip there. I enjoyed every single dish, including pork noodles, porridge, kaya toast, fried dumplings, and milk tea.

The food was delicious, but the staff's service was terrible. A rather tall female server came to take our order with a dark expression. I said I wanted kueh teow with rice noodles, and she said, "I don't understand what you're saying?"?

Loh Bak – 7/10 Fragrant, crispy on the outside, and juicy inside. It’s minced pork mixed with lard wrapped in tofu skin. Flavorful and satisfying. Pork Mee Sua – 8/10 Comfort food Clear pork soup with pork intestines.

I ordered the mixed noodles with minced pork, pork belly, and pork intestines (thick and thin). The toppings were very generous, and the portion was quite large. The soup flavor suited Taiwanese tastes. You should definitely give it a try!

One of the restaurants that sells the best soup, there are several delicious side dishes, but I haven't had a chance to try them all. The soup broth is very tasty and there are lots of toppings, highly recommended 👍

Love this food so much. Already come here couple times. Will always revisit. The broth taste thick and yummy. Always order porridge or the noodles. They closed every thursday( but check it again if get change any time)

The soup is very umami, flavorful and delicious. It has a strong intestine smell but it goes so well with everything - I got the Normal bowl, no liver with Kway Teow - Fast turnaround. Order and pay at the table.
