The coffeeshop looked like it could do with a major overhaul although it continued to exude an old-school charm like many other shophouses in Penang. First stall i ordered from; Penang Road Famous Chao Kuey Teow (檳榔路仁哥炒粿条).

And since we were parked so near Joo Hooi Cafe, it was inevitable that we sat down for some ice cold cendol and a bowl of assam laksa... This old coffee shop oozes nostalgic charm like no other.

After our Round 1 lunch at Tuai Pui Curry Mee , we headed to our next stop i.e. Joo Hooi Cafe, the coffeeshop right behind where the famous chendol pushcart is. Besides chendol, this cafe has a lot more tasty local eats to offer.

Prominently located on the tourist-friendly Jalan Penang, Joo Hooi is your best bet for amazing hawker food. Traditional wooden furniture and plastic chairs suggest that Joo Hooi doesn’t plan on modernising any time soon.

I had Assam Laksa and Cendol. The Assam Laksa's soup initially tasted like pork and fish, but then the sourness and spiciness kicked in – it was quite a complex flavor! The noodles were rice noodles about 2cm long.

Overrated, tiny portion, no smokey aroma at all, it is just salty on my taste bud. Servicewise, it is a big NO, especially to the arrogant younger lady owner.

PENANG ROAD FAMOUS JIN KOR CHAR KUEY TEOW at Joo Hooi Cafe delivers an exceptional plate of one of Penang’s most iconic dishes. The skill involved in the stir-frying process is evident, resulting in a perfect "wok hei" that imparts a smoky…

What a terrible ambassador for Penang-styled char koay teow! I would recommend to anyone reading this to look elsewhere. Was here 2 days ago. Char koay teow had no soul, no wok hei and no colour. Siham the size of a baby's boogle.

Loud, busy, chaotic - perfect for quick bite. One thing to be prepared for - you pay different people for different foods. So, you might order two food dishes and drinks from ONE menu, but you will pay for each individually.

The place was quite busy, and not very clean. The service was very fast. We ordered octopus and pie. Both were delicious. The portions were small and inexpensive.

The food tasted so-so; I don't understand why people line up like this. They charge you for each dish as it comes out. When I said I would pay all at once, someone shouted at me—I couldn't tell if it was Chinese or Malay—and I almost…

Disappointing experience – Avoid this place! I visited here and it was a complete disaster. The environment was poor, service was incredibly slow, and the food was subpar. The worst part was the wait time.

You can just get cendol — takeaway is fast. Everything else takes a long time. The whole place is disorganized, and you don’t know when you’ll get a seat. Even after ordering, your food might not come.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Assam laksa noodles way overcooked. Soup is watery. Absolute disaster. RM8.50. Char Kway Teow oily yet flavourless. Cockles bitter. Serving is tiny for RM10. Worst place I've ate at so far in Penang.
